Stingers fans,
Your kids are incredible! What a terrific start to the season. We had replay-worthy long throws, short passes, goals, defensive grabs, interceptions for a score (it's called a 'Callahan'), pivoting, marking, and sticking-like-glue on defense... not to mention great line captaining, positive sportsmanship, and a clever team cheer.
We had a short bench, so the players were pretty tired by the second (even windier) game, and this is reflected by the score. But we ended on a high note by scoring the final point and the rain held off. Hooray!
Green Lake Dragon: 7-4
Bertschi Bugaboo: 3-6
* Specific rules we learned today, in case you want to share with your player:
(1) if you catch in the end zone, it's a goal, even if you try (and fail) to throw it to someone else because you didn't realize you'd scored;
(2) if O & D both grab the disc at the same time, O gains possession;
(3) you can't knock the disc out of someone's hand, it's called a 'strip' and the disc goes back to the thrower;
(4) if there is dissension or confusion (i.e. a 'contested foul'), it's a do-over - give the disc back to the thrower to try again.
Thanks so much to our sideline fans and various volunteers. Do let Jim or me know if you'd like to help out with anything.
Also, please give me feedback so I can make sure your player is having the best possible experience. I hope they all had fun today (minor bumps and upset tummies notwithstanding), and feel proud of themselves.
Next week's game is against St. Thomas Falcons at 6pm in Redmond (here: http://www.discnw.org/fields/409/). Field trip! Let's try to get there by 5:40 to warm up.
Go Stingers!
